Completion Times Explained

Taxidermy—particularly high-end fish reproduction—is very different from most of the standard businesses or ordering experiences you may be used to. Unlike mass-produced items or services with predictable lead times, this type of work is highly specialized and handcrafted. Many people understandably expect timelines similar to those from other industries, or even from average taxidermy shops that prioritize speed over detail. That’s not the kind of work we do at Fish Tales Taxidermy Studio.

I set extremely high standards for every piece I produce. I don’t work like a production line. Each fish is a custom, artistic project involving many intricate steps—ordering the blank, prepping it, applying layers of paint including pearls, iridescents, metallic powders, and most importantly, scale tipping, which is a painstaking but critical detail that brings a fish to life.

Out of all the fish taxidermists out there, I’d estimate only about 10% take the time to include this level of detail. We’re the ones entering state and national competitions, constantly learning, practicing, and refining our craft. That dedication to quality means the process takes time—but the final product is something you’ll be proud to display for a lifetime.

Fish reproductions, especially of the highest quality, require a great deal of time and attention to detail. In fact, a 12-month timeline is quite standard among professional studios that focus on delivering top-tier, lifelike work. Our goal is to create a lasting piece that you’ll be proud to display for years to come—something that reflects the significance of your catch.

While there may be quicker turnaround options out there, fast doesn’t always equal fine quality. We take the time necessary to get it right and ensure each mount meets the standards our clients expect and deserve.

Once I start on your blank it takes about 1 to 2 months to finish. The delay is waiting until it's your turn in line to get started.  While unexpected delays can sometimes happen due to personal events or adjustments clients make to their orders, communication has remained open, and your fish is moving forward in the process. I've been practicing Taxidermy for 40 years or better. I'm not in the business trying to jack customers around with delivery because customers don't understand the business. There's a reason for longer lead times than ordering from Amazon.

Please DO NOT compare me to other taxidermy shops on delivery or any other aspect. I do custom work on the majority of my orders for clients which takes time. I don't work like other taxidermists.

I invite you—and anyone reading this—to visit my website or Instagram to see the kind of work I’m talking about. You’ll find customer testimonials and photos of recently finished reproductions that reflect the pride and craftsmanship I put into every mount.

If you have any questions or would like a direct update on your order, I’d be happy to speak with you. Thank you again for your patience and for choosing Fish Tales Taxidermy Studio.
